HEAVY TRAFFIC LICENSE FEES,
HAMILTON’S ATTITUDE. , “ Scandalous State of Affairs.” Strong- criticism of the Hamilton Borough Council’s attitude in connection with the allocation of heavy traffic license fees was voiced at Thursday evening’s meeting of the Morrinsville Borough Council. A letter from the town clerk, Hamilton, advised of the decision of the recent conference, adding that the Hamilton council was prepared to agree to the apportionment of the fees on the lines of the decision at the conference (half on capital value and half on mileage of metalled roads) providing that £350 was deducted in connection with the licensing of buses running m Hamilton. The total money available for pool from licenses issued at Hamilton was £1046 15s sd, less £52 6s 9d (5 per cent commission retainable), £994 8s Bd. Cr. McPherson said there was total unanimity except with the Hamilton borough, and to his mind it was a scandalous state of affairs that the Hamilton council should insist on retaining such bus fees as there were busses in other parts of the district using only local roads, for instance trucks at Waitoa, and the Piako County Council might justly ask for the retention of these fees. He moved that the council would not agree with the proposal to retain the fees suggested, and that the Hamilton Borough Council have the matter decided by a magistrate as soon as possible. Cr. Chadwick seconded, and the motion was carried.
