TENNIS.
WAIKATO EAST ASSOCIATION. EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the management committee of the association was held last Wednesday, at Tirau, the following delegates being present: Dr. Laurenson (Matamata Tennis Club, chairman), J. Keane (Tirau), Roy Jones (Tirau), H. Sissons and H. McDonald (Matamata), T. F. Snell (Putaruru), and A. C. Thompson (hon. secretary). The treasurer submitted a statement showing the financial position of the association to be satisfactory. Accounts amounting to £l6 2s were pas--1 sed for payment. | The donor, Mr. Joseph Keane (presiI dent), during the evening presented j the Keane Banner to Dr. Laurenson, on behalf of the winners (the Mataj mata club for the senior inter-club j tennis championship of 1926). Hr. . Laurenson, in accepting the banner, thanked Mr. Keane for his generosity in donating such a splendid trophy for competition among- the tennis clubs. 'the chairman handed to Mr. Keane, on behalf of the winners, the Okoroire
Club, the splendidly designed Silver Cup, donated by Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P. for Tauranga. A hearty vote of thanks to Messrs. Keane and Macmillan for the above competitive trophies was carried by acclamation. It was decided that the annual cost of inscribing- the name of the winner on the Keane Banner and the engraving on the Macmillan Cup be borne by the association. The date of the annual general meeting- of delegates was left in the hands of the secretary. The meeting-, which was of a very enthusiastic nature, closed with votes of thanks to Messrs. McDonald and Dr. Laurenson for making- the arrangements in the final banner match at Matamata, and also to Mr. Keane for providing a room for the committee meetings. >f As the Waikato. East Association is now the holder of the,.Waikato interassociation banner, delegates present stressed the need of tennis players in this district practising hard next summer in order to withstand the expected challenges for the banner from the other tennis associations.
