WHAT IS TIME TO A PIG?

The Hon. O. J. Hawken explained -. at the farmers’ dinner on Wednesday that his officers sometimes found a. j humourous side to their.work. On one - a| j occasion an officer of the Department * , went to a great deal of trouble to explain to a farmer how he could, by j certain feeding, bring his pigs to rna- | turity at an earlier date. The farmer . listened, but capped the instruction by the remark: “After all, what’s time to a pig!” At the farmers’ dinner on Wednesday the Prime Minister told two good stories. During one of his electoral tours he visited a farmer who had grown a, specially good crop of oats. After he had complimented him the farmer replied: “Oh, yes, it’s a good crop of oats, but, my word, its taken a lot out of the ground!” The other was about a man who had visited a farmer and was told not to go near a certain bull. The man went for a walk and returned rubbing liis back and limping. He admitted that he had seen the bull. Later on he came no the milking shed smiling and told the reason. He had gone down to help get the cows in and saw a roan calf there. So he hit it on the head and satid:. “There, go and tell your old father.”
