KNOCKED DOW BY CAR.

ACCIDENT IN STUDHOLME ST. The right leg fractured in two places (one a compound fracture) and a scalp wound were injuries sustained by Mr. F. Duxfield, of Morrinsville, through a collision with a motor car, while he was cycling in Studholme street on Thursday afternoon. Mr. J. L. Arndt, of Tahuna road, was returning home in his car shortly after 4 p.m. In endeavouring to pass a cart loaded with manure, which was going in the same direction, Mr. Arndt swung to the side as in ordinary circumstances. At the same time Mr. Duxfield was coming round the cart from the opposite direction, and Mr. Arndt, thinking that Mr. Duxfield intended passing between the two vehicles, kept on his original course. Mr. Duxfield, apparently uncertain of Mr. Arndt’s intentions, appeared to hesitate as to what he should do, then swerved, just as Mr. Arndt did the same, towards the footpath. Mr. Duxfield was thrown to the gr'und, the car passing over his Mr. Duxfield was driven by Mr. Arndt to a hospital at Morrinsville, where his injuries were attended to, and he was later taken to the Waikato Hospital. The latest report states he is progressing satisfactorily.
