PALATABILITY OF PASTURE.
EXPERIMENTS IN WALES. An interesting experiment n.? ? been •carried out at the Welsh Plant Breeding Station over a period of fifteen months, to determine the relative paiatability of pasture plants. Mixtures .and pure plots of clovers and grasses were grazed by sheep, to see whether any preference was shown for one kind of plant; and if so whether it was due to some innate specific characteristic cf the plant, or to its succulence at a particular time of the year. Red clover, alsike, and white clover were regularly grazed and much sought after throughout the whole period. Allotting the plants 100 marks each, t.ie relative palatability of some of the other plants tested was as follows: — Hay mixture, 100; pasture mixture, 9f>; timOwhy, 88; cocksfoot, 87?.: sweet vernal 86; tall oat grass.
