THE PUTARURU PRESS. Office ----- Main Street ’Phone 28 --- P.O. Box 44 (Lewis, Portas and Dallimore’s Buildings.) THURSDAY, MARCH 4, 1926. PUTARURU POLICE STATION.

TENDERS for the erection of a new police station at Putaruru have been called for twice during recent years. On each occasion something lias j cropped up which has resulted in the 1 matter beteg deferred. On the last occasion,, during- the election period, a big fuss was made over the proposal by the Minister concerned, several i wires and letters on the subject being : forwarded to the member for the district. After tenders were received the question of the erection of the build- i

ing was deferred til! February, the excuse being insufficiency of funds. ! As we pointed out at the time, the position revealed lack of business foresight in a Cabinet elected to infuse/ more business into Government. I Now, February, the period fixed by the Hon. Sir James Parr in which fresh tenders were to be called for, has passed without this last promise being- honoured. It is such breaches 1 of confidence which have caused the bond of politicians in the past to become a by-word with electors. In view of the written promise of the Minister of Justice, a pronouncement on the subject is overdue, and the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce would be well advised to see to it that this is obtained so that the matter is not allowed to drift, and so perhaps become lost sight of so far as Cabinet jis concerned. The question us an ur- | gent one, for the provision of suitable police building-s for Putaruru is long | overdue.
