One of the largest yardings of beef cattle seen at Moirinsville for some time was in evidence at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s sale on Friday. Altogether the sale was a large one, all pens being occupied. Very few fat steers were penned, and only two were sold, the price being £l2 10s, about 32s 6d per 1001 b. The large amount of cow beef consisted mostly of poorer quality animals, which had an adverse effect on the values of the better cows. The market, therefore, was dull, the best cows reaching only to £7 4s, or about 23s per 1001 b. As is usual during- the summer months, only a few dairy cattle were offered and only five were sold. The market for young stock was quiet. There was more than the nusual number of sheep in evidence and prices appeared to be satisfactory. Pigs were again in large numbers, and the values showed a decided increase on recent rates. The prices are:— Beef: Fat steers £l2 10s; fat cows £6 to £7 4s, lighter £4 16s to £5 15s, unfinished £3 19s to £4 10s; large empty heifers £5 Is, large stores £3 9s, others £1 10s to £2 14s.
