PIAKO COUNTY OPINION. At last week’s m.eeting of the Piako County Council a Communication was received from the; Tauranga County Council asking for Support-for a resolution urging t-hje substitution of a petrol tax with \ a view to raisingsufficient funds to (pay the whole cost of maintenance of main highways, making suitable exemptions for dairying and other industries. The chairman (Cj. F. W. Walters) said he was in favour of the petrol tax as ope of the fairest methods they could get. He, howbver, did not suggest that this shiould be the only source of revenue fob' main highways. Regarding the exemptions for milking machines, he said that if the farmer obtained exemption ;for all the petrol, including that for jmotor ears, this | would he quite fdur, because the farmer was already fraying too much for the roads.
