THE PUTARURU HALL.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. Very Poor Attendance. There were only ten residents present at the annual general meeting- of the Putaruru Public Hall, which was held on Monday night, when Mr. A. R. Vosper, chairman of the hall committee, presided. MINUTES. -Some little trouble was experienced: in deciphering- the minutes of the last annual meeting- owing- to their disjointed nature, and on the recommendation of the chairman they were confirmed as read without comment. APOLOGY. Rev. C. W. Brown wrote apologising for his inability to be present, owing to absence from town. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. Discussion on the report and bal-ance-sheet centred round the valuation of the piano, which was set down at £29. On the motion of Messrs. Snell and Woodgate both were adopted, subject to the reduction of the valuation of the piano by £l9. Mr. Griffiths suggested that as it was impossible for anyone present to thoroughly understand such a 'longfinancial statement on a mere reading, that subsequent statements be printed
and circulated among'st the public previous to the annual meeting. DECORATION OF HALL. Miss Alcorn suggested that some interior decoration of the hall should be carried out during the coming year by the new committee. Painting was recommended as being- badly needed, and the speaker pointed out that the effort could be made an annual one. Vosper pointed out that there had been a suggestion made that the hall committee should not compete with other organisations in raising funds. As the committee received rents the opinion had been expressed that any moneys necessary should be found in this manner. However, the interior of the hall certainly needed attention, and he favoured some such effort. SEATING ACCOMMODATION. Miss Alcorn further suggested that increased seating accommodation be provided. Hall rental was the least expensive of any item when running a concert, and a small increase in the tariff could be made to cover this expense. ELECTION OF COMMITTEE. Mr. T. F. Snell thought that the old committee had done excellent work, and he believed he was voicing the feeling- of many others not present that they should be re-elected. After some discussion it was decided that the following members compose the committee for the ensuingyear: Messrs. A. R. Vosper, T. F. Snell, C. Woodgate, R. McLeod, L. C. M. Wilson, G. G. Griffiths and Rev. W. C. Brown. Mrs. T. F. Snell and Miss Alcorn were appointed a ladies’ committee with power to and to tneir number to assist the hall committee with social functions. COMMITTEE MEETING. At the conclusion of the public meeting-, the new committee held a short meeting at which Mr. A. R. Vosper was elected chairman. Considerable discussion took place as to the duties of the secretary, and on the motion of Messrs. Snell and Wilson it was decided to purchase a complete set of books, and two official receipt books. Mr. G. G. Griffiths was appointed secretary on the motion of Messrs. McLeod and Woodgate. It was decided to adopt certain recommendations made at the annual meeting’, including’ the circulation of the balance-sheet previous to the next annual meeting.
