ATHLETICS.
MATAMATA ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Matamata Athletic Association was held in the Record office on Wednesday night. In the absence of the president (Mr. F. E. Lark), Mr. Walter L. Farrell occupied the chair. APPRECIATION. In the outward correspondence was the following- letter from the secretary (Mr. D. Roigard) to the late secretary (Mr. -Roy Jamieson): — “ I am instructed by my association to write expressing the high appreciation of the members for your excellent services as secretary; also, to compliment you on your very fine annual report, which was duly presented at the annual meeting on Thursday night. “ Your resignation was accepted with genuine reluctance, the members unanimously regretting the loss of the services of so able and enthusiastic an officer. “ Permit me to add my expressions of goodwill, and to voice the wish that you may be prosperous and happy in your new district.” NEW MEMBERS. Messrs. W. Mclntosh, A. Goodwin
and R. Devey were elected members. The chairman said he had been told that fixtures for .the trying-out of motor drivers for licenses under the Matamata Town Board were being erected on the Domain. If the cars were to run on the summer track it would be spoiled. He hoped that such was not the case. The programme was arranged, and will be published in due course. The walking race was deleted from the new programme. Mr. Sutherland proposed that the relay race be of 440, 220 -and 100 yards for three teams. Mr. Devey seconded.—Carried. After, considerable discussion it was decided 'that the prize be £3, and the race open to professionals.
