A visitor from Owaka who attended the recent axemen’s carnival at the Exhibition was very much amused at an old lady who was watching one of the chops. The scratch man, who was giving away 28s, won his heat, and his mates were at once on the scene, shaking hands and congratulating him. This was too much for the old lady, who called out : “I do not see why they need to make such a fuss of him, because he never started until the rest were tired 1 ”
