JUDGING LIVE STOCK.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS. \ In order to make a first-class judge of live stock one must be naturally fond of animals, and this love must be manifested in boyhood if the top of the tree is to be reached. By watching a farmer or a stockman of any description it is easy to ascertain whether he is on good terms with the animals under his care . If he is, they appear to, and, as a matter of fact, do enjoy his company and follow him about. On the other hand, if he is unkind to them they will be far less tractable; therefore, the bad-tempered man often has great difficulty in handling Ms charges. Horses are much more successfully exhibited by a genuine horse-lover than by a man who dislikes them, and the same may be said of cattle, sheep and pigs. It is very rare that an owner or a servant manages all classes of live stock equally well, but the first essential is kindlness.
