BOWLING.

PUTARURU GREEN OPENED. The official opening ceremony in connection with the new Putaruru fowling green was favoured with fine weather after the storm of the previous day, and the green, though a trifle slow as a result of the heavy rain, was in excellent trim otherwise. Visitors were present from Carlton club (Auckland), Matamata and Tirau, and with local players made up four rinks. A most enjoyable day’s play ■was indulged in, and afternoon tea was dispensed by lady members of the Tennis and Croquet Clubs. The results of the day’s play were as follows :

Hamilton, Parker, Hawes, Watson <s) 23 beat McKenzie, McMurtrie, Lindsay, Pearse (s) 18. Snell, Hitchcock, Martin, Allen (s) 24 beat Murphy, Palmer, Frances, Cross (s) 16. Tootell, Main, Gale Coote (s) 21 beat Pass, Noonan, Lark, Crabb (s) 15.

Begbie, Hollard, Garland (s) 19 beat Nicklin, Griffiths, Morton (s) 15. As only three aside was played on this rink the game was continued to 24 beads, at which point Morton secured the lead, the scores being: Morton 25, Garland 19.

At the conclusion of play, Mr. Garland (Matamata) thanked the local club for the excellent afternoon’s sport provided, and Mr. S. J. Parker suitably responded, remarking that, much of the success was due to the efforts of the ladies. ROOSTER. COMPETITION.

With the idea of creating more interest in the club, and enhancing the keenness of play, Messrs. Francis, Neal and Wilson presented the Putaruru committee with four handsome silver roosters to be competed for by full rink teams on Wednesday afternoons, The first challenge match was played last Wednesday, when teams skipped by Messrs. Pearse and Leggatt had a most enjoyable game. The result was a surprisingly easy win for the former, whose team becomes the first holders of the roosters. The teams and the scores were: Snell, MeMeekin, Griffiths, Pearse (s); Wilson, Murphy, Francis, Leggatt (s). Heads (1) I—o, (2) I—l, (3) 3—l, (4) 4—l, (5) 4—2, (6) 5—2, (7) 7—2, (S) 7—3, (9) B—3, (10) S—4, (11) 10—4, (12) 11—4, (13) 12—4, (14) 14—4, (15) 17—4, (16) 19—4, (17) 21—4, (18) 24—4, (19) 24—5, (20) 24—6, (21) 25—6.
