VALEDICTORY.

MISS JEAN ALLISON. A large crowd assembled in St. Andrew’s Hall, Matamata, on Thurs - day evening, to hid farewell to Miss Jean Allison, who is forced to leave the district on account of ill health. An enjoyable time was spent in games and songs, while various competitions, supplied by Mrs. McMurtrie and Mr. Pirie, were entered into with enthusiasm. Musical items were rendered by Messrs. Pirie and S. Price, after which a dainty supper 1 was served by the ladies in charge and was highly appreciated by all.

During the evening the Rev. A. C. Hampton took the opportunity of offering Miss Allison, on behalf of those present, a token of esteem, Miss Allison receiving a beautiful fountain pen and a very substantial purse of sovereigns. Rev. Hampton spoke in glowing terms of the good work for which Mis’s Allison had been responsible in church and other matters. She had always been ready to help others and had never spared herself when there was work to be done but had stuck at it willingly and saw the task through. She had found her way into the hearts of all and her departure would he keenly felt by her many friends. The speaker hoped a warmer climate and sea air would prove beneficial, to the guest, and, when next they saw her, she would have her health restored. Mr. Allison, suitably responding on behalf of his daughter, thanked one and all for their kindness and the goodwill shown towards her. A memorable evening was brought to a close with the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.”

Miss Allison, who left Matamata on Saturday for Tuakau, will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends.
