MOKAI.
The mills and bush contractors 1 commenced work on Tuesday, the sth j inst., and everybody is now back to 1 normal, feeling much better after the j fortnight’s holiday. With the exceotion of New Tear’s Day the weather! was excellent all through, and picnic j parties were enabled to go to various points of interest, of which the local hot baths seemed to be the most popular. i One party during Christmas week- 1 end secured 44 trout in Lake Taupe, using’ the spoon during the daylight and the fly at night. The train service during the holidays was well patronised, trains running from Mokai to PutaVuru and back thrice weekly. This enabled local people to go out and do some shopping in Putaruru and return the same day. After threatening for some days rain set in on Monday night and should be of benefit to the pastures and gardens, as the countryside was beginning to feel the effects of the dry weather.
