TELEPHONIC CONNECTION.
MATAMATA TO TAURANGA. Departmental View. The request for direct telephonic communication between Tauranga and Matamata is being followed up vigorously by the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. To- a letter on the subject to the secretary, G.P.0., Wellington (Mr. A. Markham), the secretary of the chamber (Mr. B. C. Robbins) has received the following reply:— “ In reference to your letter of the 6th inst., representing on behalf of your chamber, that telephonic communication between Tauranga and Waikato district is unsatisfactory, I beg, by direction, to inform you that Tauranga has telephone communication with the Waikato district via Rotorua and Paeroa; these outlets are considered to he sufficient for present requirements. Direct communication between Tauranga and Waikato is not considered to be an urgent need. The matter will, however, be kept in view and considered again at a later date.” The subject will he further discussed at the next meeting of the Tauranga chamber.
