A COSTLY MISTAKE.

Nearly a century ago a travelling' commission was sent into the country in England to select the most suitable stone for the rebuilding of the Palace of Westminster. For its mistake the present generation will have to pay dearly. In Yorkshire, the commissioners found that old churches of the local magnesian limestone had weathered the years wonderfully well, and on their ' recommendation this stone was chosen for the new Parliament buildings. But a stone that will stand up to the storms and buffetings of exposed Yorkshire uplands will not necessarily resist the acid in the smokepolluted atmosphere of London, and already extensive repairs to the Palace, of Wesminster have become an urgent necessity.
