MUNICIPAL BY-LAWS.

| AND CROWN PROPERTY. Hamilton Experience. Further correspondence *.i connection with the question of municipal by-laws and Crown property was received by the Morrinsville Borough Council on Thursday everrng. This vas in connection with ‘he Borough Ccuncil’s recent action against a plumber for alleg*ed breaches of the sewerage by-laws, the Magistrate’s decision going* against the council. The council recently drew the attention of the Plumbers’ Board of New Zealand to the matter, and asking the board if it could take any disciplinary measures. The Plumbers’ Board replied that they would enquire into, the matter.

The borough inspector, Hamilton, replied to a letter from the council stating that he had no trouble in getting the Railway Department to comply with the borough by-laws, and the Department also paid the necessary inspection fees. In the case of the Education Board the council had never pushed for fees, but insisted upon all work complying with the local requirements. “ Had such a case arisen in this borough,’” continued the letter, “ I would have taken action against the plumber for making a connection with the sewer without having first obtained a license, but this must be issued without a charge being made by the local authority. I ha\ r e never yet experienced a single case where the specifications of any Crown property do not provide for the plumbing and drainage to be done in accordance with the local by-laws where such existed. The same plumber has done several jobs under my supervision in this borough, and has never failed to notify me when commencing the work. It certainly seems a question which your council should bring- before the Officer of Health for the district.”
