TIRAU.

After seven years’ service on the Tirau telephone exchange Miss Fraser has resigned her position. Miss Fraser was married yesterday to Mr. James Stewart, the Waikato and Matamata representative footballer. Prior to Miss Fraser leaving, the telephone subscribers tended her a social evening in the Tirau Public Hall, at [ which nearly a hundred people assembled. During the evening, Mr. J. W. Anderson handed to Miss Fraser a substantial cheque as a token of the esteem in which she has been held:, and her courtesy to the subscribers. Mr. Anderson was also called upon to present a heavy travelling rug- to Mr. James Stewart on behalf of members of the Patetere Rugby senior fifteen. A most enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, the music for which was played by Mesdames A. Stewart, L. Bishop, S. Hamlin, and Mr. A. J. Brook. Mr. G. Wilson was M.-C. Musical honors to Miss Fraser and Mr. Stewart marked the close of the function.

Building operations continue in the township. Mr. H. Marsh is adding to his residence, and new motor sheds are being erected: by the Matamata County Council.

A wedding of Tirau interest took place at Matamata on Monday, the parties being Miss Whynn and Mr. Jesse Batley. TIRAU SCHOOL. In lieu of the annual picnic, which was abandoned owing to the infantile paralysis epidemic, the scholars and parents were entertained to afternoon tea and a lolly scramble in the school on Monday. The prizes won during the year were presented as follows: Special prize for best girl in school (schoolwork) and form prize, Esther Allen; prize for best boy in school and form prize, John Amoore; fifth standard: prize, Rita Harrison and John Wilson; fourth standard, Nancy Coates and W. Swney; third standard, Sybil Syme and Cyril Corcoran; second standard, Ruth Allen and Dudley Allen; first standard, Muriel Syme and Leslie Slattery. In addition the whole of the primer scholars (about 40) received a picture and storybooks. 'The past chairman, Mr. E. W. Jordan, presented the prizes, which were awarded on merit marks on the last term and the annual ex- . animation. ; The total on the roll of the school is still about 80, the children being in charge of Mr. G. W. Rapson (head) and Miss Christie (assistant). The hoy scholars have been greatly delighted by the receipt of a new full size football which was delivered by Mr. Mark Harrison from Mr. F. E. Lark (secretary) of the Matamata Rugby Union. The result of the Patetere and Wahoroa junior match last Saturday was a win for Patetere not Waharoa as stated.
