FARMERS’ UNION.
MATAMATA BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Matamata branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held on Saturday night, there being present: Messrs. H. Rollett (president), B. Blennenhassett (secretary), J. W. Simpson, H. Mogford, A. and E. Bowler, T. Prowse, J. Price and J. Cranswick. TIME OF MEETING. The secretary informed the branch ■ that the Town Board had seen fit to appoint him as manager of the Town Hall, vice Mr. W. Hales, one reason being that the secretarial work of the hail was done by him in any case. Saturday night union meetings made it inconvenient for him to attend to the hall. On the motion of Mr. Simpson, the night of the meeting’s was altered to Friday. MR. GORRINGE’S LECTURE. 1 Mr. A. Bowler proposed that a let- ; ter of appreciation of the lecture at . i Matamata by Mr. K. W. Gorringe (in- j | structor of Swine Husbandry) be sent to the Department of Agriculture, 1 Members endorsed Mr. Bowler’s motion, which was carried with unanimity and enthusiasm; also expressing the desire that the breed of pigs favoured by Mr. Gorringe would be introduced generally into the district, and also that the co-operative system of ownership of a good boar by small j sections of the farmers, as against i each man going to the expense of j buying one each, would be found practicable. ; COMPLIMENTS TO PREMIER. j
The president moved and 1 Mr. Bowl- j er seconded a motion that a letter of \ congratulation be sent to the Hon. J. r G. Coates, congratulating him on his ! accession to the Premiership. Members favoured the idea, and it I was left to the president to make ar- I rangements. I Mr. Prowse and Mr. Bowler said J they had seen Mr. Brown’s work in I other places, and that he was a very able man. The hope was expressed that it would be found practicable to hold the orchard demonstration on the orchard at the High School, so that the students would receive the benefit.
