MANGATAPU.
1 he Christmas tree and picnic were held on Saturday. The weather was rather boisterous in the middle of the day, but the rain cleared off in time for the picnic to start punctually. The games consisted mostly of running events, every child on the ground receiving something. The refreshments, in which ice creams and strawberries and cream figured prominently, were thoroughly enjoyed. In the evening the Christmas tree was held in the hall, and the large assortment of gifts were distributed in time-honoured fashion by an orthodox Santa Claus to his Manag’tapu flock of 75, a large number of whom received high grade books. A very pleasant item was the gift of an appropriately engraved fountain pen to Mr. Black, headmaster, and an eversharp pencil to Miss Naylor, assistant teacher, both of whom expressed their warm appreciation at being remembered. /-« dance concluded t»u day, this be•nt, \li.y well attended and an enjoy- j Ale time being- spent. Excellent music, I was supplied by the Maori orchestra.
