VALEDICTORY.
MR. A. G. YARDLEY. There was a large gathering of members of the Matamata Club present at the club premises last week, the occasion being to farewell • M- I '* A. G. Yardley, a prominent member of the club, and late manager of the Matamata Record, who is leaving Matamata to reside at Morrinsville, having received a business transfer to the headquarters of his firm, the Cargill Printing and Publishing Co., Ltd. The evening was spent in song and story, and during an interval Mr. H. Rollett, president of the club, presented Mr. Yardley, on behalf of the members, with a handsome travelling rug and cheque, and an exquisite toilet set for Mrs. Yardley. In doing so, Mr. Rollett dwelt on the great assistance that had been given to the club by the recipient, and expressed much regret at the departure. Messrs. G. G. Bell (Matamata Racing Club), H. Cleland (musical circles), /E. Fitzgerald (as an old friend), J. Brabiner (Orphans’ Club) and F. W. Hutchison (Rocky Downs Golf Club), having spoken in support, Mr. Yardley, in a few wellchosen and appropriate words, thanked the donors for their sentiments and gifts. Referring to Mr. Yardley in his business capacity, Mr. Rollett said he had appreciated the fair and accurate reporting of the guest. The health of the departing guest was accorded the usual musical honours, followed by hearty cheers, Mrs. Yardley and family being included in the tribute.
