CHRISTMAS BAZAAR.

CHURCH OF ENGLAND EFFORT. Sum ol’ £ll4 Realised. The Putarur i Town Hall presented a very festive aspect last Friday, when the big annual bazaar was held by the local Ladies’ Guild of the Church of England. The arrangement of the various booths and stalls was both effectively decorative and thoroughly’ practical. Business flourished steadily throughout the day 7 and early evening at all the stalls and substantial sums were also raised the while by competitions and lotteries. On entering the hall by the side door one was immediately struck with the refreshment “ square,” which was prettily outlined with trellised fences in black and white with evergreen finishes. Opposite this the flower stall, beautifully arranged with large quantities of cut flowers and pot plants, lent a very gay aspect to the scene. The other stalls were arranged on either side of the hall, for produce, cakes, sewing, etc., all very prettily decorated, while fascinatingalcoves were arranged at the end of the hall for “ Father Christmas ” and the ices and cold drinks. These alcove spaces were surmounted with high arches from which hung the brightest coloured streamers, making- a splendid effect. From the stage, on which were served strawberries and cream, the hall looked most picturesque and had all the atmosphere of a busy Christmas mart. The total takings for the day amounted to £ll4. The evening- was concluded with a few hours of dancing, and supper, which was provided without charge at 11 o’clock. As resident curate Mr. O. Chamberlin formally opened the bazaar at 11 a.m., and 12 hours later made a speech of thanks to the ladies who had organised effort and others who had helped to make it such a

success. The proceeds are in aid of the local funds of the Church of England.
