A BRAND FINALE.
SOCIAL CLUB DANCE. Joyous Occasion. Concluding their series of dances during the past season, the Putaruru Railway Social Club held a grand finale in the Town Hall some evenings ago. Anticipating an exceptionally good dance, enthusiasts from all parts of the district attended, and they were in no wise disappointed. The iterior of the hall was gaily decorated, profuse greenery ornamenting the sides and the stage, while over the dancing - floor was suspended a canopy of coloured streamers. The assemblage was a large one, estimated at 100 couples or more, and among the men summer flannels showed as popular attire for the occasion. To excellent music by the Melody Four Orchestra this large company soon had the floor worked into ideal condition and the dancing went with joyous rhythm. As M.C., Mr. Donaldson left nothing on his part undone, while a modern programme of dances was made still more interesting and jolly by novelty items. The chief of these were the
“ blindfold waltz,” and the “ Monte Carlo waltz,” which were dance competitions governed mostly by chance. Miss F. Armitage and Mr. Williams (Arapuni) proved the lucky winners of the former, and Mrs. Milne and Mr. Sunday (Tokoroa) winners of the latter, these four being recipients of handsome prizes. At supper-time Mrs. Aspden obliged the company by playing an extra waltz.
Altogether the occasion was voted by all present an outstanding success, and one of which the club had every reason to be proud.
