FARMERS FAVOUR MILLET.
PREFERABLE TO TURNIPS. That, in an endeavour to improve the quality of exported butter and cheese by the complete elimination of objectionable flavours, turnips will eventually be barred as a supplementary crop for dairy herds, was an opinion expressed by a Morrinsville farmer, who stated that he had put in a crop of millet this season instead of turnips. There perhaps may not be quite as much feed per acre from millet as from turnips but millet was a good crop for sustaining the milk yield and also meant less work for the farmer. There was therefore much to recommend millet to replace turnips.
