HERD TESTING.

EFFECTS OF FEEDING. Talking in connection with herd testing a Morrinsville farmer stated that it was his experience that a cow could not be condemned because it performed poorly during one season. It should be given a second season in which to make amends. He stated that it was a peculiar thing that a cow may give a very poor performance, even on pastures on which other members of the herd are doing exceedingly well, but if given a change of pasture it may do really well in butterfat production. On the other hand different feeding to a cow which is doing well might have the opposiV effect and bring the butterfat production down.
