In fairness to the Waotu team it must be stated that the members were unanimously in favour of waiving the rule and playing a cup match, but this was thought inadvisable, owing to the association’s attitude in respect of the Arapuni-Selwyn match. In the match Waotu batted first, and compiled a total of fifty runs. Arapuni followed with fifty-seven. Grainger, the club captain, pl.ayed a faultless innings of 33 runs, which included a six, giving no chances until he was cleverly caught in the slips. Waotu again made fifty in the second innings, and Arapuni put up the necessary 44 to win with the loss of only six wickets. After the match a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the ladies of Waotu for providing refreshments and entertainment to the visiting team.
A PROTEST RECEIVED. ARAPUNI - SELWYN MATCH. A meeting of the management committee of the Putaruru Cricket Association was held at Putaruru on Saturday. The members present were: Messrs. A. G. Leggatt (president), W. R. Pass and M. Henderson (vicepresidents), F. Woolliams (acting-, secretary and treasurer), T. Lukin (Waotu delegate), C. E. Hollard (Selwyn), and Tuck (Te Whetu). A protest was received from the Selwyn club against the Arapuni club having played six unregistered men in the Arapuni-Selwyn match the previous week end. The Arapuni club admitted the breach, explaining that their club was really only in the process of formation at the time, and this was how the trouble occurred. They forwarded a list of 25 players as on November 8 for registration, these, in accordance with the rules, to be elegible to play by November 22. Under the circumstances the meeting ordered a replay of the SelwynArapuni match, to take place at Selwyn on December 7—after the close of the first round. As the Arapuni men registered on November S would not be eligible for the match aganst Waotu on November 16, this match was also postponed till December 14. The secretary of the Arapuni club, Mr. C. R. McKenzie, explained that he thought his club would be quite amenable to this arrangement, as_ it fully desired to abide by the rules.
