THE PUTARURU PRESS.

THURSDAY; NOVEMBER 6, 1924. SELF HELP.

Office ... Main Street •Phone 28 - - P.O. Box 44 (Lewis, Portas and Dallimore’s Buildings.)

THE resuscitation of the grant of £ISOO for the erection, of a police station at Putaruru represents one of the first fruits of the work of the r-itararu Chamber of Commerce, while the granting of £IOOO toward

~e opening of a direct road from x utaruru to Mangatapu can also go to the credit of the chamber as successor to the Putaruru District Development Board. These items are typical of the very appreciable benefits, both great and small, which an organisation such as this can obtain for its town and district by proper and persistent advocacy, and it is indeed surprising to still find in some quarters lack of support for the chamber or belittling- of its efforts. So far the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce has received fairly sound support, a..membership of 20 financial members, with the prospect of several more, being announced at the last meeting.

However, in the town alone there are sufficient business people to double this total, while attendance at the meetings of -The"”chainher could be larger. Improvement in these directions should still further strengthen the chamber, and the matter is well worth the consideration of all concerned.
