INTERRUPTIONS OF POWER.
DRIED MILK LOSSES. The Government's Liability. The liability of the Government in connection with serious losses at dried milk factories as a result of interruptions of electric power was pointed out at the Thames Valley Electric Power Board’s meeting on Tuesday, when a letter was read from the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., complaining about interruptions of power at its dried milk powder factories, serious losses being sustained thereby. While it was understood that the new rates for power were subject to the use of stand-by power it was certainly not considered that it would be necessary to hold the generators under steam continuously, which would be the case if the company was likely to experience a repetition of the trouble. Losses of the extent mentioned were really of first importance and would override any question of power rating. Accompanying correspondence from factory managers detailed losses showing that at the Te Avvamutu factory the loss on one occasion was 45001 b of milk. Mr. Strange said that the complaint was justified and the board should not be content to merely hand on the complaint to the department. If the only solution of the problem was a duplication of the lines the board should push matters in this direction. The chairman (Mr. F. H. Claxton) said that the board was in communication with all the boards interested in the matter and when, negotiations were completed they would press their claims upon the department. Mr. Strange moved that as the matter was a very serious one the matter be urged upon the department as forcibly as possible. Mr. Thomas seconded the motion, which was 1 carried. •
