Constable Cotter, from Auckland, is the assistant constable for Putaruru, which position he has now taken up. The net financial result of the entertainment held by the Tokoroa Football Club and bachelors of Tokoroa in aid of the member of the club who was injured was well over £lO. The Government is now offering for selection the education reserve subdivision at Tokoroa on a 33-years’ renewal lease tenure. It comprises in all 23 sections, ranging in area from about 200 acres to 1300 acres. A cpJisignment of 42,500 trout fry was received by the Putaruru branch of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society last t week from Rotorua. The fry were liberated in the Oraka and fflaftiijnftfrmin streams by Mr. S. C. Snelf on behalf of the branch. A Maori boy named January Hohaia, aged 3i« years, died on Sunday at Te Poi as a result of scalds caused through his falling into a bucket of boiling calves’ food some days ago. An inquest was held on Monday morning, when a verdict of accidental death was returned. Sheep farmers in this district report a successful lambing season this spring. One expects his lambing percentage to total over 125 and another has docked slightly over 100 per cent, of lambs. The average for the district would probably total 100 per cent, this season. Most of the flocks are small and thus get close supervision, which is a very decided factor towards a big percentage. Among the successful students at the Trinity College music examinations held recently in Hamilton by Mr Mallison. the English song composer, were nine from this district, all pupils of Miss Bertha Sanders, Putaruru, who has been congratulated by the parents on the results. In the senior grade, Miss Gwen Ashford passed with honors, obtaining 81 marks. Miss Marjory Sayers secured 77 marks. Edna Pearse was top of her grade and Jean Flyger topped her division. Others who passed in their respective divisions were Nancy Lake, Zoe Barnett, Mary Halse, Joan Campbell and William Swney. The next Glee Club evening is arranged for Friday, October 24, when the ‘ club, assisted by Miss Ina Hollard and Messrs. Phillips and Gasparich, will present an attractivelyvaried programme. A matinee performance of the successful children’s operetta, “ Red Riding HoocT?’ is to be given in the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, commencing at 2.30 o’clock. The entertainment will be on the same lines as the recent evening performance. Admission, adults Is, children 6d.*.
