SLEEVES OR NO SLEEVES.
WHAT FASHION DECREES. Spring fashions in sleeves possess special significance. The sleeveless frock of last year, so often in somewhat dubious taste, is not yet destined to wholly disappear from the field. Rivalling it, however, in immense numbers, are smart dresses on most up-to-date lines, featuring the novelty of wrist length sleeves for sunny weather wear. Extremes are invariably followed by a reaction. The frock for outdoor occasions, showing only the most slender shoulder sleeves, even at the height of its popularity failed to apdiseriminating. The fact has influenced designers of all schools, and this season models on a different plan are launched for acceptance and approval. The sleeve of the moment may require modification as summer nears, or a danger exists that the sleeveless frock may again make successful appeal. Sleeves, long, tight-fitting, terminating in a shapely pointed cuff reaching almost to the knuckles, may be pretty; but promise little or no comfort on days when the sky burns like brass above us. So far at least as Auckland is concerned the climate must be taken into practical account when fashions for summer are in question. The sleeveless frock for street wear most of us will continue to refuse. No half-’length measures are permitted. All or nothing will be the rule. Sleeves, wrist 'length, sufficiently wide to allow freedom of movement, and cut on graceful plan, narrowing from the elbow, are likely to shortly become the vogue. The modish tight sleeve, of Parisian aspect, will, however, find many admirers. Not for one moment will they hesitate to sacrifice comfort to that novel and smart eifect bestowed upon the spring toilette by such addition.
