WHAT IT WILL MEAD.
A PUKEATUA VIEWPOINT. Discussing the question as to what the new bridge will probably mean to the settlers on the western side of the river in the matter of outlet to Putaruru, a Pukeatua farmer stated on Saturday that at present the charge for carting manure from Te Awamutu to his property at Pukeatua, five miles to the west of the river, was £1 per ton. The railage on manure to Putaruru was a few shillings more than to Te Awamutu, but if carting could be done from Putaruru to Pukeatua for 15s per ton it would pay to get the manure through Putaruru. By the Arapuni bridge his farm would be only about 15 miles from Putaruru as against practically 20 from Te Awamutu. The Putaruru people would do well to support the Te Awamutu request for a Government grant towards metalling the clay portion of the road between Pukeatua and Arapuni.
