gKN OCR-OUT COMPETITION. . "*• ‘ No Match Eventuates. A. In the Putaruru Rugby Union’s knock-out competition for the Amopiu Cup United ware drawn to play Rovers in the second round—or semifinal—at Putaruru on Saturday afternoon. However, the fci*mer team was the only one to put in an appearance, winning by default. This means that Selwyn and United are the two teams in the final for the cup. Owing to tha school vacation at present the final match in the schools’ competition, between WaotuLichfield and Putaruru, was not played last Saturday.
THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A qvcrv.m only comprised last weeks meediij of the management committee of rhe Putaruru Rugby Union, those present being:—Messrs. J. Barr Brown (chairman), N. H. Ashford (secretary), J. Gasparich (Schools Union), Francis (Sehvyn) and G. E. Mar in (United). ihe executive announced that in the case of the Rovers and United - players rcpor.ed for fighting on the field there was not sufficient evidence ’ to shew w:i!_h player was primarily responsible for the trouble, so no action could be taken in the matter. The referee reported that in the first round of the knock-out competition the previous Saturday Selwyn won from Yvaoiu by default. In reply to a question the chairman said he must also rule that United won from Tokoi->a by default, as fhe Tokoroa team had advised that they could not take the field for the match. The draw for the second round (last Saturday) resulted in United being drawn to play Rovers, Selwyn getting a bye. A telegram from the Awahou (Ngongotaha) union, asking for a Pu-taruru-A wahou representative match at Ngongotaha last Saturday, was referred to the Selwyn club, Mr. Francis reporting that the club could not now arrange a game with Matamata but wished to arrange a game at Rotorua or Ngongotaha. It was resolved to write to the Hamilton union cancelling the proposed Hamilton B-Putaruru representative match at Putaruru owing to the difficulty of assembling the Putaruru rep resen tative team so late in the season. Accounts and insurance claims were deferred till the next meeting, the committee to then deal with the matter of winding up the finance s '"or ‘he season.
