FOOTBALL. A AND B MATCH. An A and B representative m a till eventuated at Putaruru last Saturday, the Awahou Rug-by Union bjing unable to accept the Putaruru union s invitation for an Awahou-Putaruru representative match here that day, the Awahou team having a match at Rotorua. Of the teams selected for the local A and B match, a total of only about sixteen players assembled, and consequently an eiglit-a-side game was played. Rain, however, made conditions fairly miserable, and, on the call for half-time the game was concluded. The B team had opened the score with a penalty goal by W. Henderson, but the A team obtained two tries, one by Macown and one by Taupiri, winning by six points to three. The match had been intended as a practice for the Putaruru rep team, which is to play Cambridge reps at Cambridge next Saturday for the Finlay Cup, but in this respect it was a failure. SCHOOL MATCHES POSTPONED. Owing to the wet weather no matches were played in the schools competition last Saturday. THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. Last week’s meeting of the management committee of the Putaruru Rugby Union was attended by Messrs. J. Barr Brown (chairman), N. H. Ashford (secretary), Gasparich (schools union), Francis (Selwyn) and G. E. Martin (United). The United Club entered for the knock-out competition for the Amopiu Cup, and Mr. Francis intimated that Selwyn club, too, would almost certainly be among the entrants. The account from the Morrinsville union for £8 ISs as. the expenses of the Morrinsville team in travelling to Putaruru for the Morrinsville-Puta-ruru rep match was passed for payment, the Putaruru union having agreed to pay the expenses.

The team selected by the Putaruru Rugby Union selector, Mr. Parker, to represent the union at Cambridge in the match with the Cambridge representatives for the Finlay Cup is as follows:—Full-back, Hamilton (Tokoroa); three-quarters, Cox (Tokoroa), W. Henderson (Rovers), Taylor (Selwyn); five-eighths, Kite (Waotu), Taupiri (Rovers); half, Rawe (Rovers); rover, Gasparich (United); hookers, Jensen (Rovers), Knap (Selwyn); middle row, Taieri (Rovers), Cocks (Tokoroa), Norton (Rovers); back row, Tomalin (United), Dunlop (Tokoroa)7 Emergencies: Forwards, Jones (Selwyn), Newell (Tokoroa); five-eighths, Macown (Selwyn), T. Henderson (Rovers); three-quarters, Keweti (Selwyn), Terei (Waotu). GOLF.

The Putaruru Golf Club, during the week end, held single club matches, one for the ladies and one for the men. In the ladies’ division, Mrs. H. Robinson proved the winner, and in the men’s division, Mr. H. Johnson returned the best card, 109—30—79.
