THE METHODIST CHURCH.

QUARTERLY MEETING. The first' quarterly meeting of the newly-constituted Putaruru Methodist Circuit was held some days ago, the Rev. C. W. Brown presiding. It was reported - that the circuit fund was in debit to the extent of £92, but in view of the heavy non-recur-ring expenses in connection with the ** inauguration of the circuit this could not be considered unsatisfactory. The Sunday school superintendent reported that the attendance at the school was satisfactory, and there was a good staff of teachers. It was re- — —-solved to hold the church anniversary in September, the Rev. Ashcroft, as South Auckland president of the Methodist Church, to be invited to conduct the services. A musical committee was set up to arrange the musical portion of the ordinary and special services in the church. The Rev. Brown was authorised to confer with the Anglican clergyman at Putaruru with a view to arranging co-ordinating plans for services throughout the district. At a meeting of the trustees of the Methodist Church on Monday evening, it was reported that the Bible Class had established a fund for the installation of electric light in the church. Warm appreciation of this was expressed, and two members offered to lend the class sufficient money to have the light installed the amount to be repaid % the class. The offer was approved.
