THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Constitution Effected. The constitution of the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce' was completed at a meeting held for the purpose on Monday evening. There were present: Messrs. C. G. Alcorn, Cosset, t sen. and ju.v, H. McDonald, J. H. Morris, F. C. Barnett, J. Smith, A. R. Vosper, J. H. Bear, R. E. Brown, G. P. Portas, Johnson, J. M. Spear and G. E. Martin. Mr. Alcorn was appointed interim chairman and Mr. Martin interim secretary.
The provisional committee appointed at the inaugural meeting to draft a constitution and rules for the chamber submitted a detailed compilation of rules which it considered would suit. It added that these were based chiefly on the rules of other chambers, and particularly on those of the Rotorua chamber. The meeting considered the clauses one by one, and with sundry amendments adopted the full constitution and rules as recommended by the committee. These provided that the objects of the chamber should be the promotion and protection of the progress and prosperity of Putaruru and its surrounding districts, and generally the Dominion of New Zealand; that the chamber should be a registered body; that its financial year should be from May 1 to April 30; that the officers should be a president ‘two vice-ipresklents, a seqVetary, a treasurer, and four councillors, these officers _to comprise the executive; and that general meetings of the chamber should be held each month.
The following were then unanimously elected the officers for the nett; vice-presidents, Messrs. Spear neett; vice-presidents, Messrs. Spear and Alcorn; secretary, Mr. Martin; assistant secretary, Mr. Smith; treasurer, Mr. Brown; councillors, Messrs Bear, Morris, Portas and McDonald. It was resolved that the general monthly meetings of the chamber should be held on the third Monday in each month. An offer by Mr. Portas to deal with the registration of the chamber was accepted, and Mr. Portas thanked for it. Other formal details were also arranged.
The question of the chamber taking over the affairs of the Development Board was discussed, and it was resolved that the executive meet the board, which should then submit a written proposition to the chamber.
