IMPROVING THE ROADS.

COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME. Brought Forward by Matamata County Council. Loan of £200,000 Proposed. At the meeting of the Matamata County Council on Wednesday it was decided to submit a comprehensive county loan to cover:— 1. The county’s share of expenses on the main highway. 2. To metal the county’s marn roads, totalling approximately 200 miles. 3. To purchase further machinery. 4. To provide for the renewal of the bridges throughout the county in ferro-concrete as becomes nesessary. The loan will be for approximately £200,000, full particulars to be determined by the engineer on the basis of requirements and allowing for a special rate of Id in the £. The council expects to receive £IOO,OOO from the Public Highways Board, which will make a total expenditure of about a third of a million pounds.
