MOKAI.

LADIES’ HOCKEY. The ladies’ hockey team travelled to Taupo last Saturday to play a return game with the Taupo ladies. Although the local club did not have its strongest team the players nevertheless put up a much better battle than at the previous match. Taupo again proved victorious, this time by 2 goals to 1. Rain made conditions uncomfortable both for players and spectators. OBITUARY. The Mokai Rugby team set out to play a match at Tokaanu on Saturday but on arrival at Taupo news was received of the death of Mr. Jones, of Tokaanu. it was therefore agreed to postpone the match, and the players did not go any further. NGARUAHOE ERUPTION. Some of the local residents obtained a good view of the Ngaruahoe activity last week at intervals when the clouds lifted. Dense smoke rising vertically from the volcano was observed to reach a great height. The display was also seen from Oruanui, where a slight earthquake was felt on Friday.
