COUNTY CHAIRMAN.
CR. ANDERSON RE-ELECTED. Cr. J. W. Anderson was unanimously re-elected charman of the Matamata County Council at the statutory annual meeting of the council on Wednesday. The county clerk, Mr. H. Lewis, took the chair, and called for nominations for the chairmanship for the ensuing year. Cr. C. A. Stopford nominated Cr. Anderson, stating that all the members knew his ability as chairman, and the time he ha<T devoted to the work. There was no need to say anything further. The nomination was seconded by Cr. H. Rollett, who added that Cr. Anderson was, he thought, the only member free to give the time required by the position of county chairman and the .members knew how he devoted his time and ability to the work.
No furrner nominations were forthcoming and the nomination was adopted unanimously, Cr. Anderson being applauded as he resumed the chairman’s seat for his tweffth year in succession as chairman of the council. In. returning thanks for his re-election he mentioned incidentally that with the duties of the council’s representative on the Highways Council now added, the chairmanship of the council was likely to require more time than ever in the forthcoming 12 months. In reply to Cr. S. H. Judd, the clerk said that no report on the council’s work for the past- 12 months had been prepared, but when Cr Anderson was first elected chairman, in 19*13, the council’s expenditure for the year amounted to £10,300, while last year it amounted to over £30,000. The expenditure had thus been trebled and the council was still in a good financial position
