LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The work of continuing the Huihuitaha stream road, Puketurua, through to Waotu is now nearing the final stages, and it is expected that the through road will be open for traffic shortly.
A ladies’ flag match was held on the Putaruru golf links on Thursday afternoon last for Mrs. H. Robinson’s prize. It was a handicap competition, a gross total of 124 strokes being allowed. Mrs. H. L. Martin proved the winner, carrying the flag right to the 18th fairway.
Some £3O towards the funds of the Putaruru Anglican Church was raised by the Ladies’ Guild by a “ Paddy’s market ” in the Town Hall on Friday. Stalls with sewing work, produce, cakes and sweets, a fish pond and refreshments comprised the attractions, and business was continued until about 8.30 p.m., after which a dance was held.
The supply received at the local cheese factories for the past three months, namely, February, March and April, was as follows, the figures for the corresponding three months •of the previous year being given in parentheses for the purposes of comparison:—Tokoroa: Milk received, 1,943.8*61 b (1,024,0341 b); butterfat content, 42,5901 b (42,0371 b). Puketurua: Milk received, 756,2171 b *32.4821b (32,9521 b).
The Railway Social Club is holding the second dance of its winter series in the Town Hall on Monday evening -next. The orchestra which proved such a success at the first dance will again provide the music, and altogether a jolly evening is anticipated.*
