A somewhat ambiguous statement made by judgment creditor at the Gisborne magistrate’s court caused a ripple of laughter (states the Poverty Bay Herald). The debtor in the case had gone bankrupt, and as the creditor’s solicitor had not put in appearance, the creditor stood up and* said: “I had instructed my solicitor, hut he isn’t here, and I see he’s gone bankrupt. I suppose the case had better be struck out.” Possibly it was the extreme improbability, of any member of the profession going “ on the rocks ” that so amused the lawyers present.
