TIRAU.
TENNIS. An event of considerable interest in Tirau tennis circles took place at ITirau last Saturday. This was a match jplaya'd against the Hinuera Club. The afternoon was beautifully fine, and tempered by a cool breeze, the weather was ideal for tennis (haying. During the afternoon tea was served by the lady members of the Tirau club, and everything was done to. make the stay of the visitors an enjoyable one. The following were the results, Tirau players being mentioned first: Men.—Singles: Wilson beat Col-ry, 6 1; Selby beat Bowden, o—4; Hampson lost to McTravers, 5—6; Bailey lost to Green, 5—6; Gray beat Oates, o—3; Rice beat Condor, 6—5. Lad I-s’ singles: Miss J. Stewart beat Mrs. H. Settle, 6—3.; Mrs. Van Veen beat. Mrs. W. Settle, 6—2; Miss Hetherington bent Miss Oates, 6—2; Miss Laurence beat Mrs Condor, j 6 — 2.
Mens’ doubles,: Wilson and Selby beat Corny and Bowden, 6—2; son and Batley beat McTravers and Oates, 6—3; Gray and Kicc beat Green and Cornier, (3—-2.
Ladies' doubles: Miss J. Stewart and Mrs. Van Veen beat Mesdames H. and W. Settle, 6—4; Misses Hetherington and Kittow beat Miss Oates and Mrs. Conder, 6—l.
Mixed doubles: Wilson and Miss .1. Stewart beat Corry and Mrs. H. Settle, 6—3; J. Gray and Mrs. Van Veen beat Bowden and Mrs. W. SctHo, 6—.5; Hampson and Miss Hetherington beat McTravers and Miss Oates, 6—4; Batley and Miss Lawrence beat Green and Mrs. Conder, 4—o.
