TIRAU.
ADDITIONS TO SCHOOL. The additions to the Tirau school are now practically completed. These consist of a large new room, 20ft by 24ft, equal in size to the existing room; a headmaster’s study, and increased and improved corridor accommodation. COMING EVENTS. That “ coming* events cast their shadow before ” is evidenced by the fact that during the ia-st week or two a watch has been set, from daylight till dark, on the Tirau-Rotorua road at a point near the tennis courts. The inference is that a tally is being taken
of all vehicles passing along the road with a view to a recommendation under the Highways Act. PERSONAL. The boy Jack Callaghan, who was injured while wrestling with a schoolmate recently, is making good progress towards recovery. SOCIAL. In eonnecion with a forthcoming bazaar, Mrs. N. Coubrough and Miss Stewart recently gave an enjoyable gift afternoon for the fancy stall. The function, which took place on the tennis courts, was attended by about 150 holies, with more than a sprinklin': of the sterner sex. Friendly g*jmc> of tennis were indulged in as '•'I! as olher sorts of competitions. “ SOME CAKE ! ” i'i 'onnection with the same bazaar, • i • big cake, presented by Mesdames h (Tray, Harrison, Weightman and Miss Russell, and beautifully iced by Mr. Weightman, which has been on view in Messrs. Rose Bros.’ window for some time, has now had : ' weight guessed as near correctly as possible. The confection wo’ghed 14Mb, and therefore Mr. F.
