HERO TESTING
MORRINSVILLE ASSOCIATION. It was expected that during February the effects of the dry spell would be felt more than during any other month. Judging by the figures of the Movrins vi lie Herd-testing Association this is so, although the highest individual yield, 60.751 b of butterfat, is very creditable even for the most favourable month. The best herd average for the past month was for a herd of 31 cows, which gave 8381 b of milk and 36.981 b of butterfat with a 4.41 test. The worst herd average was a herd of 20, which gave 3591 b of milk and 17.341 b of butterfat with a test of 4.83. The best individual yield was:—Milk, 7501 b: test, 8.1; butterfat, 60.751 b. The lowest individual yield was:—Milk, 1951 b; test, 4.2; butterfat, 8.191 b. The average for the association has been worked out as:—Milk, 5441 b; test, 4.64; butterfat, 25.721 b. NEW ZEALAND CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION. The testing officers for the two Morrinsville groups of the New Zealand Co-operative Herd-testing Association believe that with the present flush of feed the milk production during* March will be equal to that of February, and with higher tests which are now being* experienced this month the amount of butterfat should be increased. A test as high as 8.7 was taken during the early portion of this month, but as the milk yield was small the butterfat production was not much above the average. The amount of milk produced was 181 b per day or 5401 b for 30 days, and the amount of butterfat for the month was 46.981 b. The difference a test will make is seen when these figures are compared with another cow, which, giving approximately the same quantity of milk but with the test the lowest recorded in these groups this month, being* only 2.4, the butterfat yield was only 13.121 b.
