STOCK SALES.
MORRINSVILLE. At Dalgety and Company's stock side at Morrinsville on Thursday there was a fair yarding* of cattle and pigs and about 1000 sheep, the values in most cases comparing* favourably with those of other sales in the district. The following are the prices:—Beef: Fat cows up to £5, store cows £1 5s to £2 2s, in-calf heifers £2 10s to £4 ss, Jersey-cross calves up to £2. Sheep: Fat wethers 27s Gd, fat lambs 265, store lambs 10s, rape lambs 14s to Jss, breeding* ewes up to 21s Gd, cull owes Bs. Pigs: Wcaners 5s to 10s. porkers 355. Farm horses: £lO to £32. HAMILTON. At the Farmers' Auctioneering* Co.’s Hamilton sale on Tuesday, there was a good yarding of all classes oi: stock, pigs especially being well represented. The enquiry tor sheep was exceptionally strong*. Lambs advanced to a degree that is scarcely likely to be maintained. There was also good competition for breeding ewes, which showed a considerable advance on recent sales. Fat sheep also improved. Forward ewes made from ISs to 73s 9d; forward shorn lambs 19s Id to 20s 3d; forward woolly lambs 22s 6d; store woolly lambs 15s 6d to 17s 10d; s.m. breeding* ewes, 19s 6d to 20s Id; slightly failing* 15s 9d to 16s 3d; culls 7s to 11s. The cattle market was exceedingly buoyant a general all round improvement being noticeable. Light weight steers made from £6 11s to £7 6s. Best cows £5 to £8 Is; medium weights £4 to £4 15s; forward cows £2 10s to £3 10s; store cows, £1 10s to £2 ss. Good competition was accorded a line of forward grown steers from the coast, these realising* from £4 16s to £5 19s. 18-months steers, 38s to £2 Bs. A few heifers in calf, but backward, were not much sought after. Pigs were not quite so brisk as the previous week, nevertheless a good standard was maintained. Best baconers made to £4 10s; light weights, £3 to £3 10s; porkers £2 5s to £2 15s; best slips 20s 6d to 2Ss; small 16s to 18s; weaners 8s to 10s Gd
WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Company quote under date March 8: — Beef.—The market for beef is distinctly firmer, with supplies of ox beef decreasing*. Cows arc still plentiful, the lighter weights being* :in keen demand. Mutton also seems (o be hardening, although there is no apparent scarcity. Prime wethers are, however, difficult to procure. Store Cattle.—The yard in gs of store cattle continue to bn small and arc mostly a nondescript nature; indeed it is unusual to see anything but oddments penned. A forward, movement, however, seems imminent, especially with respect to grown cattle, and it is certain cattle of this deseriptkm would meet with a good reception. Forward and store cows :ac- in fair demand, but heifers, r.w.b., ami calve are practically unsaleable. Store Sheep.- -There is a much firmer inquiry for sto’*° sheep, all classes participating*. Recent sales of breeding ewes have been excellent. Store lambs have in some instances advanced too far to be stable. Good lines of wethers can be readily placed but are not plentiful. Pigs.—Althoug'b still selling freely, t he market for pigs is slightly easier, but no doubt the decline is only temporary. Store sheep have slackened considerably. Steers: 3i-year, forward, £4 15s to £5 10s; stores, £4 to £4 10s; 2»-year, best Shorthorn, £3 10s to £4; 2i-year, medium Shorthorn, £2 15s to £3 ss; 18-months steers, best, £2 to £2 10s; 18-months steers, medium, £1 15s to £2. Wethers: Prime, heavy shorn, 29s to 31s; | prime, medium shorn, 26s Gd to 28s Gd. Ewes: Prime, heavy shorn, 21s to 235. Store wethers: 4-tooth, shorn, 25s to 275; 2-tooth, shorn, 22s to 245. Ewes: 2, 4 and 6-tooth, 26s to 30s; 4-year, 25s to 28s; 5-year, 22s to 255; s.m., ISs to 225. Rape lambs: 17s to 19s. Stoic lambs: Good, 14s to 16s Gd; medium, 12s to 13s Gd; small, Gs Gd to 10s. New Zealand lamb is selling at -id and New Zealand mutton at Id higher than prices last week.” AUSTRALIAN EXPORT OF LAMBS. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board lias just received a cable from its representative in Melbourne advising that the number of lambs exported from Australia during the fortnight ended the 22nd inst., was 14,394 carcases. SHIPMENTS OF MEAT FROM SOUTH AMERICA. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has received a cable from its representatives at Buenos Aires, America, advising the following' shipments to the United Kingdom for the I fortnight ended 23rd inst., from Argentine only: chilled beef, 5t>,094 quarters frozen beef, 102,775 carcases frozen mutton, 84,333 carcases frozen lamb. The quantity shipped to the Continent of Europe during the same period totalled:—108,150 quarters frozen beef, 12,035 carcases frozen mutton, 3277 carcases frozen lamb.
