REV. W. L CONNOLLY.

A DUAL PRESENTATION. The choir of All Saints’ Anglican Church, Matamata, gave a surprise party last week to Miss Mog'ford and the Rev. W. E. Connolly on the eve of their intending marriage. The function took place at the residence of Miss Mogford ”s parents and the supper and other arrangements were in the hands of the ladies of the choir. Mr. T. H. Prowsc, in making a presentation of a beautiful Doulton fruit dish to Miss Mogford on behalf of the lady members of the choir, and of a Loewe pipe to the Rev. W. E. Connolly on behalf of the gentlemen, spoke very highly of the work done for the church by Mr. and Mrs. Mogford, and said that lie could sec that their daughter was following in her parents’ footsteps. He was sure that Miss Mogford was well suited to carry out the duties of a minister’s wife and at the same time expressed the hope that the choir would be able to retain her services. Mr. H. E. Mogford, responding on behalf of his daughter, thanked the choir both for their handsome gift and their expression of goodwill towards her, and at the same time voiced his great appreciation of the work done by the choir generally. He also gave an additional word of praise to Mr. Browse for the way in which, as choirmaster, he had kept the choir together and brought it to such a state of efficiency. Replying* to Mr. Browse's remarks concerning him, he could only say that all he had done for the church had been a labour of love. The Rev. Connolly, in thanking those present for their gifts and their kindly sentiments, said he had always tried to do his best, and that both he and Miss Mogford when settled down would be very pleased to see one and all of them at any time. A further presentation was made to the Rev. Connolly on Monday, when a full meeting of the Matamata Anglican Ladies’ Guild met at Mr. and Mrs. J. Cranswick’s residence. On behalf of the guild Mrs. W. O. Garland handed the Rev. Connolly an oak salad bowl suitably inscribed, and at the same time expressed the members’ appreciation of the interest taken in the guild by their clergyman. Mrs. Garland also expressed the members’ best wishes for his future happiness and prosperity.

Alter the Rev. Connolly had replied afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Cranswick.
