POWER FROM HORAHORA.
CHARGES TO BOARDS. No Reduction at Present. In reply to the Thames Valley C.cctric. Fever Boaivcs ; for a .-eduction in charge., from Horahova a letter from the Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for Public Work:;, was read ’t Tuesday’s meeting o" the board. The letter was a follows;- “ It is reepyri c-d that you)- board is paying a substantial extra rate, viz., £BOO per an aura. ]>’as diversky For supply at three points instead of one. But : t is cly'mcd that this only "oprcs.cnis an outlay cm the part, of die board of £.10,000 or £12,000, whereas if the supply were given at one point only the extra outlay by vour board. on transmission lines would be very much greater than ’his. Moreover, the department has gone to very considerable additional expense both at Waikino and Waihou L o give these additional points of supply, for which the above revenue is a bare return. With regard to the general question of amendment of tlie board’s contract in view of the financial results of the scheme, this will be taken into account on the expiry of your nresent contract jn March, 1925. Any such revisioj will, of course, apply to all power boards and will depend upon the financial results as they appear at that date. “At the present the financial results are exceptional owing* to the overloading* of the existing* plant and to the fact that the charges in connection with the extensions have not yet come into the accounts. Moreover, considerable outlay on additional linesAis pending with the object of giving* greater security of supply. Until these extra charges are taken into account it will not be possible to make any general reduction, but if the accounts, in March, 1925, justify such a reduction it will be arranged accordingly.”
