Supplies consist principally of cow beef. This the export companies are in a position to handle and in consequence competition is well sustained. Steer beef is not plentiful. Mutton.—The market is well supplied and has now declined to the freezing- level. Lambs still remain at Sid per pound for export. There are not likely to be many further drafts until supplies are available off rape. Store Cattle.—The market is still quiet, little stock coming- forward and little inquiry to encourage it. The absence of male cattle is very noticeable. Store Sheep.— In spite of predictions to the contrary all classes of stove sheep have been well received. As forecasted in our last report those requiring breeding- ewes want them early, and until their needs are filled competition will be present. The hopes entertained by some that large consignments would be forwarded from other localities are not likely to be fulfilled. Lambs still continue to draw good bidding, especially any lots suitable for rape. Pigs have improved a little in value notwithstanding- the heavy yarding#. The season so far must be looked upon as very satisfactory, a decline to last year's level being unlikely.
