CRICKET CLUB FORMED. At a meeting held on Wednesday night of last week the employees of the Selwyn Timber Co. decided to form a cricket club, thereby adding another branch of sport to the many others already there. H was decided that the name of the club be the Selwyn Cricket Club and the following officers were elected:—President, Mr. W. Rossi ter; secretary, Mr. R. J. Macown; committee, Messrs. B. Winter, J. Knowles, M. McGrath, H. Saies and S. Barlow. The election of a captain was held over till a later date. The club should turn out a fairly strong one as the membership is close on 30 already, and may turn out strong from a playing point of view, as there are several experienced players among the members. The cricket gear lias been ordered and a pitch is being prepared. TENNIS. Tennis is also in full swing here and the court is playing better than ever. The membership is so large and the players so keen that an extra court would hardly accommodate the members 1<» the extent that they would like. Of course most of the players were beginners at the start of the season but they have progressed so well that the committee are desirous of a match against some other local club in order that they may pick up a few further points. WORK RESUMED. Work has resumed at the local mill, practically every man returning from hi- holidays to Lime, a most unusual occurrence in sawmills. Most of thorn visited the races at Auckland, ami although several had good wins the first ami second days not one finished up the meeting ahead of it— ’’ -another I sure win for the tote * —but the men j don’t complain. They have had a good time all the same.
