FIRE AT MANGATEPARU.

FARM HOUSE DESTROYED. A four-roomed farm house owned by Mr. T. R. Paterson, of Mangateparu, was completely destroyed by fire last week. There was no one in the house at the time, the owner being out on his farm when he saw the flames. Mr. Peterson had been in Morrinsville during the day and returned in the afternoon, making a cup of tea before, going* into the fields. He was away from the house for about an hour and was returning to get a hammer when he noticed that the house was on fire. Several neighbours soon collected, but the flames had 100 good a hold and nothing could be done to save the bouse or contents. A quarter of an hour later there was just a heap of smoking ruins to mark the place where the house stood. Even the washhouse, which was detached from the main building, was destroyed. Attempts made to get inside the house to rescue some of the belongings were fruitless and nothing was saved from the burning building except a Bible, which one of the neighbours had been able to reach from a window. The house and furniture were insured with the State Fire Office, but it is stated that Mr. Paterson will be a considerable loser.
